Cigar-Friendly Stays At Pebble Beach
A view of the first hole at Pebble Beach Golf Links offers a glimpse into the game's storied past. It was here that Tiger Woods won his first U.S. Open in 2000, beginning his run of Major victories that would go down in history as the "Tiger Slam." On a fateful Sunday afternoon in 1972, a 32-year-old Jack Nicklaus had his Pebble Beach moment as he battled it out with Arnold Palmer and Bruce Crampton to win his third U.S. Open Championship. And for the last 60 years, every golf-loving celebrity—from Jack Lemmon to Bill Murray—has hit these links alongside a PGA Tour professional for the much-anticipated Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
But Pebble Beach is more than just a trio of lauded golf courses, it's also a world-class resort. This month, the facility will begin accepting guests to its ultra-luxe Fairway One facilities, a new set of spacious hotel rooms and golf cottages built alongside the scenic first hole of Pebble Beach Golf Links. The new accommodations, which are an extension to The Lodge at Pebble Beach, boast large open floor plans, panoramic views of the golf course and Pacific Ocean, as well as cigar-friendly patios and balconies where a good smoke is only a phone call away.
Hirsch Bedner Associates, the interior design firm behind luxury hotels like the Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto and Ritz-Carlton Galaxy Macau, designed Fairway One to evoke the aesthetic of a luxury beach cottage, focusing on oversized rooms, natural light and added privacy.
The golf cottages, located closest to the first fairway, offer the premier experience with four large bedrooms and a living room with 17-foot ceilings. There's also a dining area, a floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and an outdoor firepit on the private terrace overlooking the golf course. The cottages are equipped with all of the bells-and-whistles you'd expect at a five-star hotel, from large, high-definition televisions to a personal wet bar.
Forget to bring a cigar with you? No worries, for not only does Fairway One provide an opulent space with stellar views to enjoy a post-round cigar, the resort will also deliver cigars to you via room service. Guests can order up smokes from a list that includes Arturo Fuente, La Aurora, Macanudo, Romeo y Julieta and other cigars to enjoy alongside a meal or cocktail.
Belying its location in the notoriously cigar-adverse state of California, Pebble Beach is quite a cigar-friendly destination, with more than a dozen places to buy cigars throughout the resort. At The Lodge, humidors can be found at The Tap Room, Stillwater Bar & Grill and Gallery Cafe restaurants, as well as the Terrace Lounge Bar.
Pebble Beach is set to host the U.S. Amateur next year; and in 2019, coinciding with the course's centennial, the U.S. Open will return to Pebble Beach Golf Links for a sixth time.
