Daniel Marshall Presidential Humidors With Fuente Cigars To Be Auctioned For Charity

With Election Day drawing near, the bid for the White House is on everyone’s minds. Soon, another kind of presidential bidding will also be taking place: humidor maker Daniel Marshall is auctioning off two different styles of humidors with executive themes, one resembling the White House itself, the other the commander-in-chief’s Resolute desk. The proceeds will benefit charity.
The White House Humidor, a 1:60 scale model of the Executive Mansion in Washington, D.C., is based upon original blueprints dating back to 1791. Made in California at the Daniel Marshall workshop, each White House Humidor takes one year to build, composed of 200 individually micro-carved pieces. Each window is hand painted by Colombian artist Juan Rosillo.
Marshall says that he and John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. A brass plaque on the inner lid includes a reproduction of each of their signatures. The bands of the cigars are made in Holland and feature miniature reproductions of the presidential portraits or an image of the White House.
Each individually numbered humidor will come with 365 cigars made by Arturo Fuente, which are wrapped with extra-old tobaccos grown on OpusX brand. The cigars come in two vitolas: Churchill, measuring 7 inches by 48 ring gauge; and Robusto, 5 1/4 by 50.
There will be 10 humidors in total. Marshall has sold one to Schwarzenegger, he intends to keep one for himself, and the rest will either be sold at auction or sold to collectors. He intends to donate the last of the humidors to the actual White House.
In October 2023, a White House Humidor with the 365 cigars and six paintings was auctioned in Los Angeles for $250,000. The proceeds went to the After-School All-Stars, a charity that provides free after-school programs for children in need. One auction is scheduled for this October, with the proceeds once again benefitting the After-School All-Stars. For details, or to bid, email [email protected]
The Resolute Desk Humidor is a hand-carved replica of the desk that resides in the Oval Office. Gifted to president Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880 by Queen Victoria, the solid oak desk was built from the timbers of the HMS Resolute, a British navy ship that was trapped in the ice during an expedition to the Arctic in 1854 and later recovered in 1856.
The Resolute Desk Humidor is constructed of 85 small American alder carvings, and features a leather-lined outer lid inlaid with 24kt gold leaf and topped with a large, bronze version of a 1943 Lincoln penny. Like the White House humidor, this also took one year to complete, and production is limited to just 10 humidors. The idea for the Resolute Desk Humidor came from a visit Marshall took to see Schwarzenegger on the set of the yet-to-be-released Kung Fury II. Schwarzenegger, in a promotional image in his role as the president of the United States, smokes a cigar in the Oval Office. During filming, the two sat together during a lunch break discussing the significance of the famous desk and the idea was conceived.
Two of Marshall’s Resolute Desk Humidors have been auctioned before, netting $100,000 in 2021 and $150,000 in 2022 respectively. A third was purchased by Schwarzenegger. Unlike the first two that were auctioned, which were empty, the remaining Resolute Desk Humidors will include 365 Fuente-made cigars, the same as can be found in the White House Humidor.
No dates have been set for when the remaining Resolute Desk Humidors will go to auction, but the starting bid—with 365 included cigars—is $50,000. The final Resolute Desk Humidor will be donated to the museum at The Historic Dockyard Chatham near Kent, England, where the original ship and the desk were built.
