Joya de Nicaragua’s 2018 TAA Exclusive Is a New Antaño Gran Reserva Size

When the blending team at Joya de Nicaragua originally presented the concept for Antaño Gran Reserva back in 2005, they handed brand owner Alejandro Martinez-Cuenca a box-pressed smoke that was slightly shorter, but thicker, than a standard Churchill. Martinez-Cuenca never forgot that cigar, and enjoyed it so much that the company is bringing it back this year to celebrate not only their own 50th anniversary, but also the 50th anniversary of the Tobacconists' Association of America.
The Antaño Gran Reserva Presidente measures 6 3/4 inches by 50 ring gauge and will only be available through retailers that are of the TAA, which is an organization established in 1968 that represents American brick-and-mortar tobacconists.
The Presidente vitola is the same all-Nicaraguan blend as the other Gran Reserva sizes brought back to the market as regular-production cigars in 2017. However, whereas each size in last year’s release is a parejo, the Presidente is sharply box-pressed.
The new vitola will carry a suggested retail price of $12.50 each, and will come packed in boxes of 20. To distinguish it from other vitolas in the Gran Reserva line, the Presidente sports a red secondary band that reads “TAA Exclusive” on it.
Like all Joya de Nicaragua cigars, Presidente is rolled in Nicaragua at the Fabrica Joya de Nicaragua S.A. factory.
The TAA will hold its 50th annual convention from April 29 to May 3 at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic.
