My Favorite Cigar

He’s a three-time Pro Bowler, a Heisman trophy winner and he holds the NFL record for most rushing touchdowns scored by a quarterback, playing for the Panthers and Patriots. (He’s currently a free agent.) But what Cam Newton really loves is a good cigar. He smokes a wide variety of them, but his favorites are Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series and the slightly stronger Serie 1926. He’s so ionate that he opened his own cigar bar and restaurant, Fellaship, in Atlanta, in 2019.
Despite his imposing physique—he stands six-foot-five and weighs around 240—the 34-year-old Newton has an easygoing personality, and he plays with a smile. “The most encouraging thing that I can get from a person is for them to say you bring fun to football,” he says.
The fun stops for him, however, when he sees people quit too early on a good smoke. “A lot of people stop smoking cigars at this length,” he says, holding up about three inches of cigar butt. He wants it smoked down to the nub. “The inside of your thumb has to be burning, feeling the heat. And that’s your cigar saying ‘no mas.’”
