Regional Cuban Punch Honors David Tang, Founder Pacific Cigar Co.
Hong Kong has a new Regional Edition Punch cigar and it was created to honor the late Sir David Tang, founder and chairman of Pacific Cigar Co. Ltd., the official distributor of Cuban cigars for Habanos S.A. in the Asia-Pacific region.
Tang ed away last year, and Pacific Cigar wanted to honor its knighted founder by releasing a limited-edition cigar that resembles his favorite smoke—the Punch Double Corona. The new cigar is called the Punch Sir David, and measures 7 1/8 inches long by 49 ring gauge. In Cuban factories, the size is known as a Paco. While it isn’t quite as long as a Punch Double Corona, which measures 7 5/8 inches in length, the Punch Sir David has the same parameters as the San Cristobal de La Habana El Morro.
The Punch Sir David comes in 50-count cabinets. Only 1,200 boxes were produced, and the cigar was made exclusively for the Asia-Pacific region. Each smoke retails for HK$388 apiece (nearly $50), and wears a secondary band that reads “Sir David Exclusivo Hong Kong.”
The special Punch had its release last month in conjunction with the grand opening of the renovated Pacific Cigar Divan, an upscale cigar lounge located in Central Hong Kong.
The Punch Sir David is part of Cuba’s Regional Edition program, a project that started in 2005 giving particular markets around the world unique, limited-edition cigars sold only in that region.
