Macanudo maker General Cigar Co. has parted ways with Alan Willner, the company's vice president of marketing. The move is effective today.

Willner had been with General since 2011 and briefly served as interim president of the Richmond, Virginia, company after the November 2015 firing of Dan Carr. Willner previously worked with Coors, Diageo and Nabisco, among other companies.

The move comes almost one year to the day after General named Régis Broersma president of the company in November 2015.

"Since ing the company in 2011, Alan has contributed to the success of our portfolio of brands, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors," said Broersma in a statement. Broersma said he would assume day-to-day management of General's marketing team.

"Change is always uncomfortable, but with this change I have great confidence in the team to drive the business forward," said Broersma. "Our strategy and brands are strong, and we are well positioned to take General Cigar to the next level. It's time to release the company's full potential."

General is one of the world's largest producers of handmade, cigars. In addition to the Macanudo brand, the company also makes and markets such well-known brands as La Gloria Cubana, CAO, Partagas, Punch, Hoyo de Monterrey and many others, including the CAO Flathead V660 Carb, Cigar Aficionado's No. 3 Cigar of 2015.

General Cigar owns cigar-rolling facilities in the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Honduras. The company sells its products in 62 countries and is owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
