Portable Cigar Rest

Portable Cigar Rest

One of the great pleasures of summer is being able to enjoy a cigar outside, but there are a few comforts the cigar smoker forgoes when ditching the confines of the man cave for the great outdoors. If you happen to light up on a whim in unfamiliar territory, you're likely to find yourself without a place to rest your smoke. Custom Ash, a company that specializes in customizable cigar accessories and ashtrays, has a solution for this problem: The Siesta—a portable cigar rest heavy enough to keep your stick secure but small enough to fit in your pocket.

The Siesta serves two key purposes for outdoor smoking: it keeps your cigar off dirty surfaces and keeps it level, so it helps maintain an even burn.

Custom Ash founder Matt Henderson says he was inspired with the idea for the Siesta while smoking a cigar at the racetrack. "My friend was disgusted that I kept putting my cigar on the table where it would roll around and get dirty, so she suggested I make something to put my cigar on," he told Cigar Aficionado. "Being a machinist by trade, I went in the next day and designed the Siesta."

Custom Ash is a division of DJH Designs, an Ontario based company with more than 50 years of experience deg and manufacturing high precision fixtures and equipment. The company's products are made from solid billets of aircraft grade aluminum—meaning each is sculpted from one solid piece of aluminum, which is much stronger than aluminum that is melted down and shaped from casting. This assures that the Siesta is not just a $20 hunk of metal; the grade and precision of the product makes for a sturdy and stylish holder for your smoke.

The product has a shallow indent where the cigar is placed. One would think a portable cigar rest designed specifically for on-the-go use would include a deeper, more secure platform that could protect the cigar from a heavy gust of wind or an off-kilt piece of patio furniture. However, Custom Ash decided to forgo a deeper cut for a wider variety, so it could accommodate larger ring gauge cigars. Cigar Aficionado found the Siesta comfortably holds any cigar up to 60 ring gauge.

The Siesta comes in four finishes—black, polished, two-tone, and 24k gold-plated—ranging in price from $19.99 to $89.99. Like all Custom Ash products, the Siesta can be engraved with a logo or name for an additional charge. For an additional $12, the company will include a Nite Ize clip and chain, allowing the to attach the Siesta to a golf bag, backpack or keychain.

Custom Ash products are available online at www.customash.com.
