A.J. Fernandez Celebrates 10 Years With New World Decenio

Cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez has produced many different cigar brands under contract for others but he also has his own portfolio of brands including New World, which turned ten years old last year. To mark the milestone, Fernandez has created a new line called New World Decenio (“decade” in Spanish), which is expected to ship to retailers in mid-May. The reason for the delay was so as not to confuse consumers with the A.J. Fernandez 20th Anniversary release in 2024.
“We’re very excited to release Decenio because New World is a staple of the A.J. Fernandez portfolio brands and we wanted to honor its legacy,” says A.J.’s daughter Jadilah, who serves as marketing coordinator at her father’s company. “My dad strives to continually challenge what people expect from him while remaining true both to himself and blending style, and we hope Decenio will become an instant classic for fans of A.J. Fernandez.”
Fernandez’s operations were disrupted by the recent, massive fire that broke out at his factory in Estelí and destroyed millions of cigars, but he has more than one factory. Decenio is produced at Fernandez’ San Lotano factory in Ocotál, Nicaragua.
The blend for Decenio consists of a Mexican cover leaf, Nicaraguan binder and a mix of fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. According to the company, the cigar is medium-to-full-bodied.
Shipping in bright blue boxes of 20, the line is available in three softly box-pressed sizes: Robusto, measuring 5 1/2 inches by 54 ring gauge; Toro, 6 1/2 by 54; and Gordo, 6 by 58. Suggested retail prices are expected to range between $12.50 to $15 each.
