Aged Romeos In A Jar Made Just for Spain
This week, retailers in Spain will be receiving decorative ceramic jars full of 19 aged Romeo y Julieta Short Churchills that regional distributor Tabacalera S.L.U. says were “rolled before 2012,” making the cigars no younger than eight years old.
Exclusive to the Spanish market, these Romeos are the fifth release of the Sevilla Series, an annual lineup of jarred cigars that started in 2016.
Only 2,000 jars of the Romeo Short Churchills were produced and each has a suggested retail price of 311.60 euros, or $362.40 per jar.
The glazed English earthenware jars come from the kilns of La Cartuja de Sevilla, and are replicas of the original Ramon Allones jars made in the first half of the 20th century. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because La Cartuja de Sevilla is the same producer that fired the original jars nearly a century ago, so the patterns are almost identical.
It should be noted that the Sevilla Series differs from the Vintage Collection, Spain’s other regional line of ceramic cigar jars. Last year, Tabacalera released the Montecristo No. 1 in its Delftware-style Vintage Collection.
