Cigar company Bombay Tobak, best known for its MBombay lines of cigars, is launching a maduro version of its Gaaja brand next week. Called Gaaja Maduro, the cigar debuted at last year's International Cigar and Pipe Retailer's trade show and will start shipping to cigar stores on February 13. The company is also expanding the original Gaaja line with a new figurado called Torpedo, launching on the same date.

"For Gaaja Maduro blend, we used Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper," Mel Shah, owner of Bombay Tobak, told Cigar Aficionado. "This wrapper has played a very important factor in increasing the flavor and the body to the cigar. Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper has definitely added more complexity into the mix."

Besides the wrapper, Shah says the blend remains essentially the same as the original Gaaja, though the proportions of the filler tobaccos have been minimally adjusted to better complement the Brazilian Mata Fina. The cigar contains an Ecuadoran binder that holds together filler from the Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador and Paraguay.

Launching in two sizes, Gaaja Maduro will feature a Toro, at 6 inches by 54 ring and Torpedo, at 6 1/2 by 54. Both sizes will retail for $15.50 each.

The new Gaaja core line Torpedo has the same dimensions and price point as the Maduro version. All three cigars ship in 10-count boxes. Bombay Tobak's brands, including Gaaja, Gaaja Maduro and MBombay are rolled at Tabacos de Costa Rica, in Costa Rica.
