E.P. Carrillo Short Run Comes Back—With A New Twist

Ernesto Perez-Carrillo’s Short Run cigar is coming back, but this new one is going to be considerably different from all of the previous versions—it’s the first Short Run being made by another company.
E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2023 hails from Honduras, rather than the Dominican Republic, as it’s being rolled by Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. The wrapper is Ecuador Havana, the binder from Nicaragua and the filler a mix of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos.
“Working together with Don Ernesto Perez-Carrillo has been a formidable experience and a great honor for us, and it fills us with satisfaction to have used tobacco from Copan, Honduras,” says Oscar Valladares. “This tobacco has filled us with satisfaction and has been a fundamental part of our history and one of my favorites.”
“Crafting this blend at Oscar Valladares’ factory with his team is a perfect fusion of tradition and innovation,” says Perez-Carrillo. “Our 2023 Short Run is a tribute to the timeless character of this unique tobacco, brought to life with a modern touch.”
The smoke comes in three sizes: Robusto, which measures 5 inches long by 50 ring gauge and has a suggested retail price of $10.75 per cigar. The Toro is 6 by 52, and slated to sell for $11.75 while the 6-by-60 Gordo will have a $12.75 price tag. All the cigars are packed 24 to the box. As the name suggests, production is limited, but it’s more limited for the Gordo than the other two sizes. Valladares is making 1,250 boxes each of the Robusto and Toro sizes, but he’s only making 625 boxes of Gordos.
The new cigars will be on display this weekend at the PCA trade show, with shipping expected to commence by the end of this month.
Every Short Run, up until this one, has been rolled at Perez-Carrillo’s Dominican cigar factory. But as business has increased for Perez-Carrillo, he has outsourced some projects, most notably the Cigar of the Week.)
