General To Release Limited Edition For Macanudo Gold’s 20th Anniversary
The annual release of the Macanudo Gold Label from General Cigar Co. begins next week on the first of May, and will be shipping to retailers until the end of July or whenever this year’s allotment has run out. But it’s also the brand’s 20th anniversary, and to celebrate, General is launching a limited-edition Gran Pyramid along with the rest of the line.
Made in the Dominican Republic at the General Cigar Dominicana factory, the fairly mild smoke is made with a Mexican tobacco. It comes in seven standard sizes: Hampton Court Tubo, measuring 5 1/2 inches by 42 ring gauge; Lord Nelson, at 7 by 49; Tudor, 6 by 52; Duke of York, 5 1/4 by 54; Shakespeare, 6 1/2 by 45; Crystal, 5 1/2 by 50; Gold Pyramid, 5 by 54; and the limited-edition Gran Pyramid, 6 by 52.
Suggested retail prices range from $10.29 to $11.29. The new Gran Pyramid is priced at $11.29 as well. All come in 25-count boxes, save for the Gran Pyramid, which comes 24 per box, and the Crystal, which is packaged in boxes of eight cigars.
While the core Macanudo Gold has always been billed as even milder on of its lighter wrapper culled from lower primings of the tobacco plant. The reduced sun exposure of the lower leaves makes for a wrapper leaf that’s lighter in both color and body.
