La Barba Introducing New Version of Ricochet Cigar
La Barba is adding a follow up to its Ricochet series of cigars, this time using a sun-grown wrapper from Mexico. The new La Barba Ricochet Crü Mexi-Sol is made with a Mexican wrapper grown in the open sunlight, a binder leaf from Indonesia and a three-country filler blend incorporating leaves from Nicaragua, Pennsylvania and the Dominican Republic.
The line comes in four sizes, each cigar named after its dimensions: 4 1/4 inches long by 44 ring gauge; 5 1/2 by 54; 6 by 60; and a 6 1/4 by 52 torpedo. The diminutive smoke with the 44 ring gauge retails for $7, while the other three range in price from $11 to $11.75 before taxes.
Made by Tabacalera William Ventura in the Dominican Republic for brand owner Tony Bellatto, each La Barba blend is inspired by a type of wine, reflecting the days Bellato spent as a sommelier.
“Each blend I did takes the components of wines from around the world that I have fallen in love with,” he says.
This new cigar is a follow up to the original La Barba Ricochet San Andres Mexican cigar, which has been on sale since October. The first Ricochet reflected his enjoyment of Italian primitivo, while La Barba Ricochet Crü Mexi-Sol is inspired by Left Bank Bordeaux.
La Barba cigars have had mixed results over nine blind tastings in Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider dating back to 2017, with ratings ranging from 82 to 90 points. La Barba is Spanish for “the beard,” and many of the cigar bands depict a straight razor.
