Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Coming In May

The new Edición Diamante trades the power of the original Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua for subtlety and elegance

What started as an experimental blend during the development of the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua line has now become its own brand. Called Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante, the new cigar line is a subtler expression of the original Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua series. Where the original is full-bodied, this one is intended to be more medium in strength, and it should be available by May.

Like the original, the Edición Diamante was conceived by Rafael Nodal, head of product capability for Altadis U.S.A., and cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez.

“When A.J. Fernandez and I completed the blend of the original Montecristo 1935 Anniversary in 2020, we knew we had something special,” recalls Nodal, “but we also knew that during that process we had created other blends that deserved to be introduced. Many projects start as a marketing idea, but the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante was born out of our iration for this iconic brand and our ion for creativity.”

Nodal adds that both he and Fernandez felt that although the blend was good at the time, the tobaccos still needed more age, so the blend was shelved.

Made by Ometepe and the filler tobaccos—three different varietals—are all from Estelí.

Ranging in price from $16.42 to $26.08, the new line comes in six sizes: Icon, measuring 4 3/4 inches by 48 ring gauge; Robusto, at 5 by 54; a 6-by-55 Toro; No. 2, 6 1/2 by 56; the 6-by-60 Grande and Churchill at 7 by 54.

All Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante cigars come in 10-count boxes and are made with a soft box-pressing.
