My Favorite Cigar

Tico Torres • Rock Star
Montecristo No. 4
When he’s not keeping the beat for the rock band Bon Jovi, drummer Tico Torres is probably smoking a cigar, or playing golf. “I have one a day lately,” he says. The short and dependable Montecristo No. 4 is his go-to smoke, but he tries new cigars too. “My new favorite non-Cuban is the La Flor Dominicana Reserva Especial El Jocko Natural,” he says. “A nice day cigar—short and sweet.”
Torres actually didn’t enjoy his first cigar experience. “My grandfather and father both smoke cigars. My pop let me taste one when I was a kid—I didn’t like it at all. It’s something that came later in life, when I could appreciate the taste and culture of Cuba and its cigars.”
Cigars help him relax, and they help him get over the occasional bad round of golf. He loves the links and he loves cigars, but there’s nothing that can compare to the roar of an appreciative crowd when he’s playing. “Honestly, there’s nothing like it. It’s the most spiritual thing I can ever do.”
