His is the familiar face that brings the news to so many, every night, an anchor from the old school with the stately voice of reason, letting you know precisely what is going on. Bret Baier is the chief political anchor for FOX News Channel and the host of “Special Report with Bret Baier,” the highest rated cable news show in its time slot.
Baier ed Fox in 1998 as the first reporter in its Atlanta bureau and now he’s based in Washington, D.C., where he’s become a familiar face, especially during debate season. He was one of the s for three Republican debates in 2016 (reaching 24 million viewers, according to Fox). Mentored by Brit Hume, Baier stepped into his role, taking over as anchor for “Special Report” in 2009, and has been there ever since.
For relaxation, there is golf (he played on his high school team) as well as cigars. “Cigars have a common place on the golf course,” he says, and he’s a frequent contender at the Els for Autism Pro-Am, cigar in hand. Baier smoked cigars in college, and is known to puff on Rocky Patels, especially after having met the cigarmaker in Florida.
