New Saga Cigars From De Los Reyes

Two new Saga-branded smokes from Saga Solaz line, and the other is a limited-edition cigar with a proprietary wrapper.
While a cigar blend is ultimately the sum of its parts, the wrapper can be the defining component. For the new, limited-edition De Los Reyes puts the spotlight on the wrapper, which was grown in Yamasá, an area north of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
In the ancient Taino language, yamasá means “humid ground.” According to the company, the soil where the wrapper was grown is quite fertile and has a high content of minerals (hematite in particular, also known as “bloodstone”) which gives the soil a noticeably reddish color and clay-like consistency. According to De Los Reyes, the wrapper for this year’s release is a Cuban-seed hybrid from a 2019 harvest. Though not from Yamasá, the binder and filler tobaccos are Dominican as well.
The Saga Golden Age Yamasá is available in one size called Gran Corona, which measures 5 5/8 inches by 47 ring gauge and has a suggested retail price of $14. Production is limited to just 5,000 boxes of 10 cigars.
The Yamasá is planned to be an annual release—the 2024 release will have a cover leaf from a 2020 harvest.
In addition, the company is adding a Corona to its Solaz line, which brings the total up to four sizes. Named after the Spanish word for “leisure,” the Solaz line is billed as one of the mildest brands in De Los Reyes’ portfolio. Measuring 6 by 44, it consists of an Ecuador Connecticut wrapper around a mix of Dominican tobacco—Piloto Cubano, Olor and Criollo.
Retailing for $9 each, the Saga Solaz Corona comes packaged in eight-count boxes.
