The fourth cigar brand from OZ Family Cigars is going to make its debut in a few weeks in New Orleans, at the PCA trade show. It’s called Karatoba, and it’s rolled in Nicaragua by Nicaraguan American Cigars S.A., better known as NACSA.

“I really wanted something that not only captures the palate immediately, but that takes the smoker on a ride of complex and evolving flavors that really keep the smoking experience interesting and your palate captivated,” says brand owner Tim Ozgener. He thinks this is probably his strongest cigar yet from OZ, and he calls it medium to full in body.

Karatoba is a word that combines the Turkish word for “dark” (kara) with a reference to Indonesia’s Lake Toba, which sits atop a caldera formed by an old supervolcano. Toba is the site of an ancient eruption that took place some 73,000 years ago, a blast that was one of the most powerful eruptions the earth has ever endured.

The cigar will come in four sizes, ranging in price from $12 to $13 apiece: Toro (6 1/2 inches by 50 ring gauge, $12.25), Robusto (5 by 52, $12), Robusto Extra (5 1/2 by 55, $12.75) and Gordo (6 by 60, $13). The cigars will come in boxes of 21, and shipping will take place in May.
