Cigar Aficionado

According to multiple news reports, a meteorite struck Cuba today in the Pinar del Río region, located about two hours West of the capital city of Havana and home to the country’s most prized tobacco fields. No injuries were reported. 

CNN’s Patrick Oppmann, the network’s Cuba correspondent who lives in Havana, said the impact happened near a house in San Luís, a tobacco-growing town within Pinar del Río and home to many tobacco farmers. Fragments were found “right outside” the door of a house belonging to a person who does not grow cigar tobacco, Oppman told Cigar Aficionado. There was “no damage,” he said. 

This has been a busy week of unusual natural activity in Cuba. On Tuesday, a rare and powerful tornado hit Havana, killing four.
