The Colibri Quasar II Lighter

Man has been drawn to the elegant and alluring shape of pyramids since ancient times, and Colibri’s Quasar line employs this most famous polyhedron shape in a line of eye-catching cigar accessories, from ashtrays and humidors to cutters and lighters. Quasar made its debut 10 years ago, but Colibri recently released a new, smaller Quasar lighter, intended to make this version of a pyramid a little more portable.
The Quasar II, introduced in November, is a turbo lighter with a built-in cutter, standing a bit less than three inches tall. It’s rectangular, and three of its sides are adorned with a trio of pyramids, giving it a distinctive texture. Push up on the front section and the thick lid pops open, revealing and igniting twin jet torches, which are angled slightly to create powerful flames that converge on your cigar.
While the lighter is marketed as pocket-sized, it’s no lightweight, tipping the scales at about six ounces, considerably heavier than most lighters. You won’t be putting this in a pair of tros—more like a jacket pocket, or maybe your briefcase. It has a big, heavy dial to adjust the height of the flames and a thick lid on top anchored by a fat hinge.
A button on the back frees a circular punch cutter, which extends from beneath the lighter with a satisfying click. (The cutter itself feels a bit loose, unlike the rest of the device, which is extra thick and sturdy.)
The Quasar II comes in seven finishes, and has a two-year warranty, and retails for $99.
