Weller By Cohiba Back With New Barrel-Aged Binder
Bourbon and cigars are a natural pairing for many, but not all Bourbons are the same. General Cigar Co. is bringing back its Weller by Cohiba brand, a limited-edition cigar intended to pair with Weller Bourbon, only this year, General has taken a slightly different approach. While the three previous releases (2021, 2022 and 2023) had binder leaves aged in Weller 12-Year Bourbon barrels, the 2024 edition was made with binders aged in a barrel that once held Weller Full Proof Bourbon. The cigars are expected to start shipping to retailers by the end of this month.
“Weller by Cohiba has become a staple in the Cohiba lineup and a great example of how the craftsmanship behind cigars and Bourbon mirror one another,” said Cohiba brand ambassador Sean Williams.
Available in one size, a Toro measuring 6 inches by 50 ring gauge, the cigar features an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper and fillers from Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. The defining leaf is the Connecticut broadleaf binder, which is the only tobacco that underwent barrel aging. According to the company, this is a medium- to full-bodied blend.
With the new barrel-aging also comes a new look. Previous releases of Weller by Cohiba had black and gold packaging to emulate the label of the Weller 12-Year Bourbon. The new cigar comes in blue and gold boxes and tubos intended to better reflect the branding of Weller Full Proof.
Made in the Dominican Republic at General Cigar Dominicana, Weller by Cohiba 2024 has a suggested retail price of $29.99 each and comes in 10-count boxes. The number of boxes being produced has not been disclosed.
