If Bordeaux comes to mind (think Chateau La Mission Haute-Brion), it's not a mistake. Francophile Pete Johnson of Tatuaje fame has taken his love of French wines and projected it on to this Mission du L'Atelier project. It's another variation (or "label" in wine parlance) of his original L'Atelier line, which is the collaborative effort of Johnson, his brother K.C., Dan Welsh and Sean Johnson. La Mission distinguishes itself by its striking appearance: dramatic box-pressing, pigtail caps and a dark Mexican San Andrés wrapper. It also features Sancti Spiritus tobacco in the filler, an uncommon varietal grown in Nicaragua by the Garcia family. The blend is impressive, especially in the 1959 size, which shows a savory, leathery note, sweet baking spices and a touch of anise.
